Fall 2010
The Plainsman has been a very busy place these past few weeks. We have had the opportunity to work with various groups from the Aurora Middle School and the Aurora High School. I love to share the treasures of the Plainsman with students.
On September 10, we had the Aurora 7th Grade Hamilton County History Day. The students came to the Plainsman and had the opportunity to experience making butter, shelling corn, a school day in the one-room school, life in the times of General Bates, researching Hamilton County Civil War veterans and toured the Ag Building and the Main building. A big thank you to our volunteers who made this day possible and to the administration and teachers at Aurora Middle School. This program is one of the highlights of our year and we look forward to next year.
We have also partnered with Aurora High School History teacher Brenda Klawonn. Together we developed a new program centered on the sod house and homesteading. The highlight of this program has been watching the students recreate Solomon Butcher sod house photographs. To see the results please go to the Photo of the Month section of the website. You will see the students did a great job and it was a lot of fun for all of us.
Happy fall and we will see you at the Plainsman soon!
